AI @ Webflow
Exploring the intersection of Artificial Intelligence and UX Research, driving innovation in product development workflows.
The Challenge
As AI rapidly transformed the technological landscape, Webflow needed to understand both how to incorporate AI into their own platform and how the internal research team could leverage AI to work smarter.
The Approach
This initiative was twofold: researching AI product features for users, and implementing AI into our own UXR workflows.
- Evaluating AI Tools: We rigorously tested and evaluated emerging AI tools for transcription, synthesis, and analysis, separating genuine utility from hype.
- User Research on AI Features: We conducted exploratory research to understand web designers’ anxieties, expectations, and mental models surrounding AI-assisted design and development.
- Workflow Integration: We piloted AI-assisted taxonomy mapping and synthesis, carefully guarding against bias and maintaining the rigor of qualitative analysis.
The Impact
We successfully developed a framework for evaluating when and where AI was appropriate within the research lifecycle (e.g., heavily utilizing it for transcription and preliminary synthesis, while keeping human judgment strictly in the loop for final insights). Furthermore, the insights gathered from our user research directly informed Webflow’s strategic approach to introducing AI features into the core product, ensuring they were genuinely helpful rather than disruptive to the designer’s workflow.
